After being in the works for a long time, Assos has finally landed at BSC! The Swiss brand is best known for pioneering the modern padded cycling short – or chamois – and has remained the industry forerunner in bib-short design ever since. Like the difference between an original masterwork and its print replicas, Assos bibs are a cut above the rest. This superior level of quality is not limited to bib shorts either. BSC staff have extensively tested Assos tights, jerseys, leg warmers, and winter jackets that have blown other top-end apparel brands out of the water.
Malcolm’s current favourite Assos product: Equipe RS Spring/Fall Bib Tights
- I tend to run pretty warm on the bike, and I wouldn’t want tights any thicker than this for any time of year in Victoria. For me, the weight of these tights is perfect for pretty much any ride between 0-15 degrees. Though I know Peter and Taro have the heavier Mille GT Winter Bib Tights and enjoy using them in the same kind of conditions – nice to have a couple options.
- I have a size small and the fit is great – no fabric bunching anywhere – the cut is really perfect.
- As you'd expect from Assos, the chamois is incredibly comfortable. The Equipe series is designed for racing first and foremost, so padding on the bottoms is more minimal. Mille is the endurance series, designed with the longest days in the saddle in mind. In my experience, this translates into the Equipe bibs being race-ready and also as comfy as any other brand's best offerings. Meanwhile, the Mille bibs (I have the GTO C2 shorts and love them) attain an otherworldly level of comfort.

- Assos bibs are also undisputed #1 for me, but since Malcolm’s already talked about bottoms I figured I’d highlight a top.
- This is a super versatile piece which, like most Assos jackets, can be worn either as a standalone or layered over a jersey and/or baselayer.
- The quality and durability is really apparent with the Assos tops – what you want when you’re investing in a piece to last you many seasons to come
